Nissan (Japanese car company) Skyline sedan 10th generation R34 model
The first-generation Skyline (SI/S2 model) was first manufactured by Fuji Seimitsu Kogyo (later Prince Motors) in 1957. Although the Skyline was not originally a Nissan model, the name survived the merger of Prince Motors and Nissan Motors in 1966 and has become an important car in Nissan's history, loved by many fans. In the long history of the Skyline, the 10th generation Skyline (R34 model) is one of the models that has attracted enthusiastic support from fans. Available as either a four-door sedan or a two-door coupe, the 10th generation Skyline was developed with the aim of further improving its renowned athletic performance, including a 55 mm shorter wheelbase than its predecessor, the 9th generation Skyline (R33). Development by Nissan's engineering team was thorough. The body rigidity was dramatically increased to improve dynamic performance, and the 10th generation Skyline had a tougher body and superior driving performance that clearly surpassed its rivals. However, in terms of sales, the 10th generation Skyline faced an uphill battle. Whereas its predecessor, the 9th generation Skyline (R33), achieved total sales of 217,133 units, including the Skyline GT-R, the 10th generation Skyline sold 64,623 units, less than a third of the previous model, a significant decline. This had a profound impact on the Skyline's future. Nissan decided to stop developing a successor to the R34 Skyline and to sell the large Infiniti-brand sedan in Japan as the 11th generation Skyline (V35), which was to be sold under a completely different name from the Skyline. Accordingly, the iconic in-line six-cylinder engine of the previous generation was replaced by a V6 engine, the wheelbase was significantly extended and the character of the Skyline was drastically changed. The 10th generation Skyline is therefore still loved by many fans as the 'last Skyline', carrying on the traditions of the first generation.
