In September 1963, the Porsche 911 (first generation Type 901), the eternal icon of the sports car, was presented to the public at the Frankfurt Motor Show as the successor to the Porsche 356, Porsche's first production car. In order to meet the crash safety standards of the time in the USA, the shape of the front and rear bumpers was drastically changed on the 930, and the overall length was extended by 144 mm compared to the 901. In order to comply with emission regulations, Bosch's K-Jetronic fuel injection system was adopted, and emission performance and fuel economy were greatly improved. Porsche introduced further innovations for the 930 911. The 911 Turbo, the first production Porsche with a turbocharged engine, was presented at the 1974 Paris Salon. Porsche had been racing turbocharged 917s in the racing field since 1972, and in the then-popular Can-Am series, the 917s were winning in large numbers due to their overwhelming power and competitiveness.
