Urayama Dam of Progress - Chapter 6.
The first Eunos Roadster, which reinstated the lightweight open sports car.
Daughter of a Gallic noblewoman who is a rare user of offensive magic among Witches.

Car
Mazda Eunos Roadster. First generation NA type
In the 1960s, British-made lightweight open sports cars such as the Lotus Elan, MG MGB and Austin Healey were extremely popular in Europe and the USA.
However, in the 1970s, emission regulations and revised crash safety regulations began to weed out these cars from the market, and by the 1980s, lightweight open sports cars themselves had almost disappeared from the market.
It was against this backdrop that a new sports car was planned by Mazda North America.
In the 1980s, a member of the development department at Mazda's North American technical centre said, "If only there was a lightweight car like the MG", and this sparked the development of a lightweight open-air sports car by volunteers, mainly from Mazda staff in North America.
In 1986, the project by the volunteers was approved by Mazda's planning committee and the development project was officially launched.
However, at the start of the project, it was far from smooth sailing, as the number of people working on the Roadster (MX-5) was small and there was much opposition to the project within Mazda.
Despite these circumstances, Mazda's engineers poured their utmost passion into the development of the MX-5.
The development concept was "Jinba Ittai" (rider and horse as one), and Mazda's engineers poured all the elements they could think of to bring driving pleasure, including a 50:50 front-rear weight distribution, compact body size, FR drive layout, a vehicle weight of less than one tonne, low centre of gravity and low moment of inertia.
On the other hand, in order to generate sales volume, a low price had to be achieved.
Therefore, the existing engine and gearbox were used to reduce costs and achieve an affordable selling price.
However, Mazda did not compromise on the chassis in order to realise 'Jinba Ittai' (rider and horse as one), for example by equipping it with Mazda's first high-cost double wishbones front and rear.
When sales began in 1989, the Roadster (MX-5) became extremely popular all over the world thanks to its affordable price and excellent handling. This was a phenomenal sales record for a two-seater convertible.
As a result, a wide variety of followers were sold by many manufacturers worldwide from the 1990s onwards.
Later, due to profitability and market needs, many manufacturers other than Mazda stopped selling two-seater open sports cars, or increased the price and body size of the two-seater open cars they sold.
On the other hand, Mazda continued to produce the Roadster (MX-5) and maintained its development policy of 'Jinba Ittai' (rider and horse as one), and kept the lightweight, affordable, lightweight open-air sports car.
The Roadster (MX-5), which continued to be a lightweight open sports car through model changes, became a car loved by many enthusiasts around the world.
As a result, in April 2016, when the fourth generation, the ND model, was manufactured, the total sales of all generations reached one million units, setting an unprecedented milestone for a convertible car.
This vehicle is the first generation of the Roadster (MX-5), the NA model.
It was a phenomenal sales success for a two-seater open sports car, and is still loved by many enthusiasts around the world as a customisation base and sports car.

Anime
Strike Witches (see Pixiv Hundred Dictionary).
The 20th century (1939) in a world much like the real Earth, but where the concept of 'magic' exists.
Humanity is invaded by the Neuroi, an alien-shaped enemy that suddenly appears.
Against the Neuroi, conventional weapons are no match, and the only effective weapon is an attack with magical power.
The magic power is mostly possessed by women, especially young women in their teens, and inevitably they are the only ones who can fight effectively.
The future of the world is thus entrusted to the 'witches' who drive the 'Striker Unit', a flying device made of machines.

Character
Perrine Clostermann (see official website).
Daughter of a Gallic noble family.
She is very high-minded and often has a pompous attitude towards those around her.
However, this is often due to her feelings for her homeland, which was destroyed by the Neuroi, and she can show a surprising side to those whom she has forgiven.
She is a rare user of offensive magic amongst Witches, and can release lightning bolts to destroy enemies in her surroundings.
