Car
FIAT Abarth 124 Spyder. 2nd generation CBA-NF2EK model
The 124 Sport Spyder was sold in 1967 as a convertible version of the Fiat 124 and was so popular that it took North America by storm. The Fiat 124 Spyder is the car that revived the traditional Fiat 124 name in 2016. Fiat made an extremely important decision when reviving the 124. The decision was made to procure the Roadster chassis, suspension and other platforms from Mazda and outsource the production of the 124 Spyder to Mazda. This was the result of the coincidence of Mazda's desire to increase the capacity utilisation of its headquarters plant in Hiroshima and the Fiat Group's desire to increase the compact FR sports car lineage, which had long since been discontinued. The new Fiat 124 Spyder shared basic components with the fourth-generation Mazda Roadster (ND model), including the body frame, suspension, soft-top opening and closing system and interior. However, Fiat did not make the 124 Spyder a copy of the Roadster. The exterior was redesigned with a different design inspired by the original 124 Spyder, the engine was an in-house made 1.4-litre in-line four-cylinder petrol turbo and the suspension settings were different from those of the Roadster, making it a car with a different character from the Roadster. As a result, the 124 Spyder was a more speed-focused car than the bare-bones Roadster, with a more highly tuned Abarth version available. The 124 Spyder showed the world what it was capable of by winning the series championship in the PN2 class of the 2018 All-Japan Gymkhana Championship driven by Tetsuya Yamano and achieving good results in the WRC, which it entered.
