For more than a century since cars were first driven on Japanese roads, light trucks have been built to Japan's unique light vehicle standards, which have evolved over the years to suit the country's narrow road environment. Light trucks are designed to transport goods and crops on Japan's narrow country roads and in urban areas, and have gained a solid following as commercial vehicles. Currently, only three companies in Japan - Suzuki, Daihatsu and Honda - manufacture light trucks, while other Japanese manufacturers sell vehicles on an OEM basis. This vehicle is the 10th generation of the Suzuki Carryi, a best-selling commercial vehicle that has been manufactured and sold by Suzuki since 1961 and boasts cumulative sales of more than 4 million units. The Suzuki Calii has been the number one-selling truck in Japan for 39 consecutive years from 1971 to 2009, and has become a commercial vehicle that enjoys overwhelming support from Japanese users.
