Subaru (company) Impreza WRX STI 3rd generation GR series
The third generation of Subaru's flagship model, the Impreza.
Subaru's product concept for the third generation of the Impreza was "New Comfort Style", with the development of improved comfort as a key objective.
Accordingly, the wheelbase and overall width were widened compared to the previous generation to achieve superior comfort and improved collision safety.
As with the first and second-generation Impreza, the rally-based WRX model, armed with a 4WD system and a turbocharged engine, was set up as a base machine to compete in the World Rally Championship (WRC), and was designed to demonstrate its fighting power on all kinds of terrain, including tarmac, dirt and snow roads. It is a machine that can demonstrate its fighting power in any field, including tarmac, dirt and snow roads.
Subaru decided that a hatchback body with a short rear overhang and excellent turning ability would be most suitable for rallying on twisty roads, and with the introduction of the third-generation Impreza, the decision was made to switch from a sedan body to a hatchback Impreza body for WRC competition.
On the other hand, the sedan-bodied Impreza WRX, with its superior aerodynamics at medium to high speeds, was used in the Nürburgring 24-hour endurance race, where stability at high speeds is required.
In 2011, the 3rd generation Impreza won the SP3T class (21st overall) of the Nürburgring 24 Hour Endurance Race, and in the following year, 2012, it won the same class (28th overall), demonstrating its high level of competitiveness not only in the rally field but also on the circuit field. The 3rd generation Impreza demonstrated its high level of competitiveness not only in the rally field but also on the circuit.
