Car
HONDA BEAT PP1 type
A mid-ship two-seater open sport car based on the mini-car standard, sold by Honda from 1991 to 1998.
The car's name is derived from the English word "beat," which means a strong rhythm or heartbeat, As the name implies, the BEAT is designed to bring the ultimate driving pleasure to its occupants.
At the time of the BEAT's launch in 1991, many Japanese sports cars were striving for higher power output, larger body size, and more high-tech features.
However, honda engineers chose a completely opposite approach to create a car that would provide the ultimate driving pleasure.
They dared to adopt the light car standard (revised in January 1990: body size limited to 3.30 m in length (1.40 m in width and 2.00 m in height), with a total displacement of 660 cc or less), which made it difficult to achieve high performance.
This was a bold move by Honda engineers at the time, who were concerned about modern automobiles that lacked a sense of oneness with the driver due to the use of electronic control, enlarged body size, and other factors.
Honda introduced the BEAT with an extremely compact body and a full-open two-seater MR layout, The low center of gravity of the body shape, and the steering system that eliminated the power steering mechanism for a direct feeling, The transmission was manual transmission only, and the high-revving NA engine was based on F1 technology of the time, The engineers poured into the BEAT all the elements they could think of to bring driving pleasure.
Their efforts bore fruit, and the BEAT was described by many car enthusiasts in Japan as the most fun car to drive, it has become a car loved by a great number of fans, with about 70% of the more than 30,000 units produced still in existence.
The Honda BEAT was also the last 4-wheeled vehicle to be sent off by the company's founder, Soichiro Honda.
At the launch of the BEAT, Soichiro Honda said with a smile, "It's so small, but it runs great! "
